It’s like falling down a hole to Wonderland.
Just 5 hours south of Denver, Santa Fe is a quick and easy road trip filled with adventure and excitement which is why it is one of my favorite weekend getaways.
On our most recent trip, we stopped by Meow Wolf, the hottest new attraction. It’s hard to explain what Meow Wolf is…I guess it’s a museum/jungle gym/art installation? It’s a magical world inside of a house inside of a warehouse on the side of a road…in Santa Fe.
About Meow Wolf
Meow Wolf is a beautiful compilation of over 200 artists’ artistic visions. Artists across all disciplines are included: architecture, sculpture, painting, photography and video production, virtual and augmented reality, music and audio engineering, narrative writing, costuming and performance, and more. Meow Wolf is this groups’ first permanent installation and is located at 1352 Rufina Cir, Santa Fe, NM. This location opened March 2016 with the support of Game Of Thrones legend George R.R. Martin.
Is Meow Wolf For Children?
Yes, and young adults, and adults, and seniors. Truly anyone can enjoy Meow Wolf because there is something for every age. The hidden passageways are adored by the children, the psychedelic décor appeals to young adults and the works of art and impromptu performances appeal to adults and grandparents alike. On the website, Meow Wolf explains that unlike other museums, children are encouraged to take a hands-on approach to everything in the House of Eternal Return. Almost everything is interactive and upon arriving we were told, “Touch everything, you never know what will light up or make sound.”
What Is It Really Like?
It’s surreal. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It was the greatest museum I have ever been to. Walking in, there’s usually a line out the door. It’s a popular attraction, expect to wait 10-30 minutes to get inside. Once you’re inside, you see a large house and are instructed to read what’s in the mailbox. You quickly realize there’s more to this house than an interactive jungle-gym, there’s a story. My husband and I started out looking for clues to the story, but decided to just enjoy the House of Eternal Return and discover the story if we stumbled upon clues. We explored every nook and cranny of the house, crawling through closets, walking into the refrigerator, leaping into the dryer. This house never ends! After four hours, we felt like we had seen every last inch of the museum.
Coming Soon: Meow Wolf Denver And Las Vegas
Recently, Meow Wolf announced that two new locations will be coming in the year 2020. The Denver location will be located near the Six Flags Elitch Gardens downtown and is projected to be significantly larger than the Santa Fe location. (We’re talking a $50 million, four story, 90,000 square-foot building!) As of right now, over 19,000 first week tickets have been purchased for the Denver location. You can also buy a Lifetime Pass for $10,000 that allows you access to all Meow Wolf locations for you and a guest.
Meow Wolf is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico and is open every day except for Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (and until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday).
Have you ever been to Meow Wolf? What did you think of it? I’m already itching to go back!
