Inside Meow Wolf, Santa Fe’s Hottest New Attraction

It’s like falling down a hole to Wonderland.

Just 5 hours south of Denver, Santa Fe is a quick and easy road trip filled with adventure and excitement which is why it is one of my favorite weekend getaways.

On our most recent trip, we stopped by Meow Wolf, the hottest new attraction. It’s hard to explain what Meow Wolf is…I guess it’s a museum/jungle gym/art installation? It’s a magical world inside of a house inside of a warehouse on the side of a road…in Santa Fe.

About Meow Wolf

Meow Wolf is a beautiful compilation of over 200 artists’ artistic visions. Artists across all disciplines are included: architecture, sculpture, painting, photography and video production, virtual and augmented reality, music and audio engineering, narrative writing, costuming and performance, and more. Meow Wolf is this groups’ first permanent installation and is located at 1352 Rufina Cir, Santa Fe, NM. This location opened March 2016 with the support of Game Of Thrones legend George R.R. Martin.

Is Meow Wolf For Children?

Yes, and young adults, and adults, and seniors. Truly anyone can enjoy Meow Wolf because there is something for every age. The hidden passageways are adored by the children, the psychedelic décor appeals to young adults and the works of art and impromptu performances appeal to adults and grandparents alike. On the website, Meow Wolf explains that unlike other museums, children are encouraged to take a hands-on approach to everything in the House of Eternal Return. Almost everything is interactive and upon arriving we were told, “Touch everything, you never know what will light up or make sound.”

What Is It Really Like?

It’s surreal. It’s unlike anything I’ve experienced before. It was the greatest museum I have ever been to. Walking in, there’s usually a line out the door. It’s a popular attraction, expect to wait 10-30 minutes to get inside. Once you’re inside, you see a large house and are instructed to read what’s in the mailbox. You quickly realize there’s more to this house than an interactive jungle-gym, there’s a story. My husband and I started out looking for clues to the story, but decided to just enjoy the House of Eternal Return and discover the story if we stumbled upon clues. We explored every nook and cranny of the house, crawling through closets, walking into the refrigerator, leaping into the dryer. This house never ends! After four hours, we felt like we had seen every last inch of the museum.

  1. […] I can’t say enough good things about Meow Wolf in Santa Fe, New Mexico. What an experience! This psychedelic fun house/museum was the highlight of our road trip and one of the coolest places I have ever been. I still can’t get over how exciting it was to crawl through a refrigerator and into another world full of color and activity. This place is hard to describe…but it was a once in a lifetime experience. To see more photos from Meow Wolf, click here. […]
