Do we recognize how much Virgos give?
As an astrology enthusiast, I know my target audience is quite specific. When I say “Virgo,” the general population might think, Oh sure, astrology, and leave it at that. But when I hear Virgo, a whole series of images, keywords, and people come flooding to mind.
I think of some of the most giving, attentive, intelligent, and quietly capable people I know. The people who notice what everyone else overlooks. The ones who remember what needs to be done, anticipate everyone’s needs, and somehow keep organizations, families, and businesses functioning behind the scenes.
But how often do we actually stop to notice what Virgos bring to the table? Do we recognize just how much they give?
I unknowingly found myself surrounded by Virgos from a young age, and even then, I could sense that my August and September friends had gifts that were unmatched.
My cousin was one of my best friends growing up. We had our own language, literally. She has always been exceptionally witty, which totally tracks because Virgo is ruled by Mercury, the planet associated with communication, intellect, and quick thinking.
And that brings me to a little piece of language I love: mercurial. The word comes from Mercury, the Roman god, and has been used for centuries to describe someone who is quick-witted, lively, and changeable. It feels especially fitting when I think about the Virgo mind: observant, analytical, curious, and always making connections.
My cousin is all of those things. Looking back, I realize she was giving me one of my earliest glimpses into the very particular magic of Virgo.
I began my deep dive into astrology in 2020. Before that, I thought it was a cute coincidence that I seemed to collect friends with similar birthdays. It wasn’t until I began to understand my own birth chart that I started putting the pieces together. I realized I wasn’t simply drawn to people by coincidence; I was often drawn to the qualities certain signs naturally exhibited.
Which brings me back to the magic of Virgo.
What can we learn from those born between August 23 and September 22?
Fittingly, Virgo Season aligns with going back to school. And during this season, one of the best things we can be is flexible. Things may not go exactly as planned. We may forget things along the way. Our carefully organized schedules may need to be adjusted. And honestly, this is all very Virgo.
As a mutable sign, Virgo is adaptable, mentally agile, and skilled at problem-solving. Virgo asks us to look at the systems we’ve created and consider how they could work better. It’s not necessarily about starting over. Sometimes, it’s simply about making a thoughtful edit.
This is the time of year to ask ourselves: What in my life needs editing, adjusting, or refinement?
Virgos are givers, often to a fault. Their instinct to help, improve, and attend to the details can be so constant that their own needs become an afterthought. And when we continually give without being seen, appreciated, or replenished, resentment and burnout can follow.
So what does Virgo teach the rest of us?
We cannot pour from an empty cup.
Taking care of ourselves doesn’t always require a dramatic overhaul. Sometimes, it means making small, meaningful changes to our daily routines by editing what no longer works, creating systems that support us, and making room for our own needs alongside everyone else’s.
Because the same love we give so willingly to others deserves a place in our own lives, too.
